times have changed, but our commitment hasn't
2020 is nothing like we envisioned, but our commitment to supporting those in need remains the same. With our core mission of giving back to the community and our 5 charitable beneficiaries, we will be bringing the virtual Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot experience to your doorstep!
The Turkey Trot Race Team is excited to bring you our first-ever virtual Turkey Trot. Design your own course and run, walk, or jog your 5K or 10K anytime between November 21st and 29th. After your run, upload your results to see how you stack up to other runners and celebrate with us by sharing on social media!
It is more important than ever to support one another this holiday season. So this year, all registrants will be automatically enrolled in our NEW Hometown Hero Challenge. The Turkey Trot is challenging YOU to become a Hometown Hero by completing a series of Good Deeds around the community. Learn more about the Hometown Hero Challenge here!

Hometown Hero Challenge
The Hometown Hero Challenge will start on October 1st and you will have until November 30th to complete 20 good deeds! Complete 20 good deeds and you will receive a Hometown Hero badge with your Turkey Trot packet.
Bringing Silicon Valley residents together for America’s largest Thanksgiving Day race is so important to us and the charities who depend on us but even more important than that is the safety and well being of our community. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues and after much discussion with health experts, we concluded that a virtual race was the safest option for participants, volunteers, staff, and the hundreds of city and state employees, many of whom are first responders, who come together to help deliver the event each year. We will work to deliver a virtual experience worthy of the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot name to ensure that runners and walkers feel the community, camaraderie and competition of the world's largest Thanksgiving Day race.
You can complete your virtual 5K/10K run anytime, anywhere from November 21st to November 29th. Run outside, on a treadmill, with family, or on your own. Use our RaceJoy app or your own tracking app to record your time and complete the distance you registered for.
If you were registered before the switch to virtual, you have been sent an email with options. If you did not receive an email, please contact Emily Sparling at [email protected].
With your Turkey Trot registration, you will receive our deluxe tech race shirt, digital bib, buff (first 5,000 to signup), and an automatic entry into the Hometown Hero Challenge where you can earn additional swag items.
Registration is open until we sell out.
Race packets will be shipped right to your front door. During registration, you will be asked to enter your shipping address. Please make sure this is a standardized US address, deliverable by USPS. Packets will be sent out during the month of November. You must register by November 6th to receive your race packet before Thanksgiving day.
There may also be an option for an in-person pick up for those who would like that option. We will keep you posted on details about that.
Hometown Hero Challenge
With your 5k/10k registration, you are automatically entered into the Hometown Hero Challenge. You can begin completing and recording your Good Deeds on October 1st. You will login to your RunSignUp account or use your name and birthday to enter your good deeds on the Hometown Hero Challenge results page. Once you complete your 20 good deeds, you will receive a special Hometown Hero badge in your race packet.
If you complete and upload at least 1 good deed, you will receive a Turkey Trot sticker.
If you complete 20 or more, you will receive an embroidered iron-on Hometown Hero badge that can be applied to your race shirt.
If you complete all 25, you will earn our undying respect.
If your child signs up for the Kids Fun Run, he/she is automatically entered into the Little Hero Challenge and they will receive the good deed sheet linked in the confirmation email. We suggest that you print this out for your child to cross off the good deeds as they complete them.
You can submit your run time on our results page beginning November 21st. If you use our RaceJoy app to complete and track your run, your results will automatically be uploaded to our results page.
RaceJoy is an application that tracks your 5K/10K run/walk and automatically uploads your results to the results page for your event. This app is free to use and you must download the app before race week from the App Store. You need to carry your phone with you to track your time through the app. You can also track your friends and family member’s runs and send them cheers or audio messages. Not running? Download the app to watch your runner complete their run as a spectator!
Once downloaded, go through the RaceJoy Tutorial to learn how to find your event and track your run. Once you have selected your event and entered your bib number, you are ready to track your run. Go to My Races on the day you choose to complete your 5K/10K run/walk, and just hit the green ‘GO’ button once you begin! Make sure your GPS tracking is ON and WIFI is OFF (if you are leaving the house for your run). Once you are finished, hit the red ‘END RUN’ button to complete your run and submit your results to the leaderboard.
