running separately, yet together
Given the mission of the Turkey Trot to aid vulnerable communities in Silicon Valley, we have elected to prioritize public health while still maintaining the community-building aspect of the event through a shared virtual experience.
The Turkey Trot Race Team invites you to join us virtually this Thanksgiving for a morning of running for the community, our 5 charitable beneficiaries, and that second slice of pie after Thanksgiving dinner! Design your own course and run, walk, or jog your 5K or 10K anytime between November 25th and 28th. After your run, upload your results to see how you stack up to other runners and celebrate with us by sharing on social media!
It is more important than ever to support one another this holiday season. So this year, all registrants will be automatically enrolled in our Hometown Hero Challenge. The Turkey Trot is challenging YOU to become a Hometown Hero by completing a series of Good Deeds around the community. Learn more about the Hometown Hero Challenge here!

In an effort to protect public health given the rise in the highly contagious Delta variant, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation today announced the 2021 Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot will be an entirely virtual event. This long-standing event is a pillar of the community and has donated more than $10M to local charities. Given the mission of the Turkey Trot to aid vulnerable communities in Silicon Valley, we have elected to prioritize public health while still maintaining the community-building aspect of the event through a shared virtual experience. Read more here.

Hometown Hero Challenge
With your 5k/10k registration, you are automatically entered into the Hometown Hero Challenge. You can begin completing and recording your Good Deeds on October 1st. You will login to your RunSignUp account or use your name and birthday to enter your good deeds on the Hometown Hero Challenge results page. Once you complete your 10 good deeds, you will receive a special Hometown Hero badge in your race packet.
If you complete 10 or more, you will receive an embroidered iron-on Hometown Hero badge that can be applied to your race shirt.
If you complete all 25, you will earn our undying respect.
If your child signs up for the Kids Fun Run, he/she is automatically entered into the Little Hero Challenge and they will receive the good deed sheet linked in the confirmation email. We suggest that you print this out for your child to cross off the good deeds as they complete them.
You can submit your run time on our results page beginning November 21st. If you use our RaceJoy app to complete and track your run, your results will automatically be uploaded to our results page.
There are no awards for our virtual races based on performance. Results posted are on the honor system—if you cheat, you’re only cheating yourself.
RaceJoy is an application that tracks your 5K/10K run/walk and automatically uploads your results to the results page for your event. This app is free to use and you must download the app before race week from the App Store. You need to carry your phone with you to track your time through the app. You can also track your friends and family member’s runs and send them cheers or audio messages. Not running? Download the app to watch your runner complete their run as a spectator!
Once downloaded, go through the RaceJoy Tutorial to learn how to find your event and track your run. Once you have selected your event and entered your bib number, you are ready to track your run. Go to My Races on the day you choose to complete your 5K/10K run/walk, and just hit the green ‘GO’ button once you begin! Make sure your GPS tracking is ON and WIFI is OFF (if you are leaving the house for your run). Once you are finished, hit the red ‘END RUN’ button to complete your run and submit your results to the leaderboard.
