In an effort to protect public health given the rise in the highly contagious Delta variant, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation today announced the 2021 Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot will be an entirely virtual event. This long-standing event is a pillar of the community and has donated more than $10M to local charities. Given the mission of the Turkey Trot to aid vulnerable communities in Silicon Valley, we have elected to prioritize public health while still maintaining the community-building aspect of the event through a shared virtual experience.

“Our primary concern is the health of our community, and we remain committed to producing a dynamic event that provides much-needed assistance to our most vulnerable community members while also building camaraderie and a sense of shared mission,” said SVLG CEO Ahmad Thomas.

"We fully understand and completely support the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation’s decision to ensure this year’s Turkey Trot is a safe and healthy experience for participants and the broader community" said Joe Pon, Corporate Vice President, Applied Materials, Inc. “At Applied, we look forward to inviting employees, their friends and families to join us – virtually – for the traditional Thanksgiving Day event which raises critically-needed funds for organizations in Silicon Valley"

The 2021 Turkey Trot already had a virtual component that was designed to involve participants in a fun, interactive, and uplifting community experience, and we will now expand on this model for all runners. Racing separately, yet together will be our motto for this year.

We hope that both participants and sponsors will join us in our mission of providing relief for those most in need at this critical time in our recovery from the COVID pandemic.
